THR – Directors Anthony and Joe Russo’s superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier marched past the $600 million mark at the global box office Tuesday; it’s outperforming the first film by a stunning 158 percent.

The Marvel Studios and Disney tentpole has also crossed $100 million in China, the movie’s second-highest-grossing territory after North America, where it has earned $205.3 million.

Overseas, Captain America 2 — starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson — has earned $396.3 million to date for a worldwide total of $601.6 million through Tuesday.

Released in 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger took in $371 million globally. The sequel, which has also surpassed the entire lifetime earnings of Iron Man ($585 million) and the first Thor ($449 million), will more than double that number by the end of its run. And it should soon surpass the second Iron Man ($623.9 million) and sequel Thor: The Dark World ($644.8 million).

Other top-grossing countries are the U.K. ($28.6 million), South Korea ($28.4 million), Mexico ($23.5 million), Brazil ($17.9 million) and France ($17.1 million).
