Scarlett’s parents are Karsten Johansson and Melanie Sloan. Johansson is an architect who was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 2, 1943. Sloan comes from an Ashkenazi Jewish family and was born in The Bronx, New York City in 1951. Her ancestors were Jewish immigrants from both Poland and Minsk in the Russian Empire. She also acted as Scarlett’s manager for a number of years, before she was replaced in November 2009 by Rick Yorn.

Scarlett has an older half-brother, Christian Johansson, from her father’s first marriage. She also has an older sister, Vanessa Johansson, who is also an actress; an older brother, Adrian Johansson, and her twin brother, Hunter Johansson, who is involved in politics. In addition, she has a younger adopted sister, Fenan Sloan, who was adopted from Ethiopia in 2010 by Scarlett’s mother.

Has a twin brother, Hunter, with whom she attended P.S. 41 in Greenwich Village. They both appeared in a school production of Oliver!. Scarlett is the elder of the two by three minutes.

Scarlett’s professional acting debut was alongside Ethan Hawke in the 1993 off Broadway play, Sophistry.

First on-screen appearances was in an uncredited role during a skit in the first year of Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1993 when Scarlett was just 8 years old. She later recalled the skit during an interview with Conan in 2005.

Has six tattoos. Her most recent additions are on either side of her ribcage. Others include a horseshoe design with the words ‘Lucky You’ which she had inked on her ribcage by artist Fuzi Uvtpk on a trip to Paris in 2012.
